Magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit Ilocos Norte

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the province of Ilocos Norte Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its earthquake information bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor jolted 48 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Burgos at 10:56 a.m.

The tectonic quake has a depth of focus of 15 km.

Phivolcs previously reported the earthquake at magnitude 5.8.

Meanwhile, the agency logged the following reported intensities:

  • Intensity V – Sinait and Cabugao, Ilocos Sur; Sarrat, Ilocos Norte
  • Intensity IV – Claveria, Cagayan; Tubo, Abra
  • Intensity III – Lacub, Abra
  • Intensity II – Aparri and Lasam, Cagayan

The following are the recorded instrumental intensities:

  • Intensity V – San Nicholas, Ilocos Norte
  • Intensity IV – Sinait and City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur
  • Intensity III – Gonzaga, Cagayan
  • Intensity II – Penablanca, Cagayan; Bangued, Abra; Bontoc, Mountain Province
  • Intensity I – Candon and Narvacan, Ilocos Sur

According to Phivolcs, damages and aftershocks are expected from the earthquake.
