Classes in Manila suspended in celebration of 443rd Foundation Anniversary

In celebration of Manila City's 443rd Foundation Day on Tuesday, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. has announced June 24, 2014 as a special non-working day in the city of Manila.

Secretary Ochoa said classes are suspended in the city in accordance to Proclamation No. 766 which says that, "it is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies."

On June 24,1571, Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi exercised his rule in the then Spanish city of Manila following his arrival from New Spain which is now known as Mexico.

Manila is the capital and the second largest city in the Philippines which makes up Metro Manila along with other sixteen cities and one municipality.(PNA)
