A 1,233-strong Philippine team is set to participate in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from May 5 to 17.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) expressed its optimism that the country’s delegation, which is composed of 905 athletes and 257 officials “will be competing in all the events despite the odds.”
“I’m confident these are all fighting athletes,” POC President Abraham Tolentino said during its General Assembly in Pasig on March 15.
The host country Cambodia has lined up a total of 608 events in 38 sports for this regional biennial meet.
Meanwhile, despite the POC Executive Board’s decision to suspend the Philippine Swimming Incorporated, the country will still be sending eight athletes in aquatics diving, 71 in swimming, and 26 in water polo. CF/with reports from Khay Asuncion, PTV Sports – gb
