A race participant died Sunday, March 26, during the endurance race of Ironman 70.3 at Davao City, the sports event organizer confirmed.
Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao said in a Facebook post that “the athlete required medical attention during the swim portion of the race.”
The race organizers added that the participant was then transported to a nearest hospital to be treated.
“Our condolences go out to the athlete’s family and friends, whom we will continue to support,” Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao said.
More than a thousand triathletes from 40 countries participated in the premier endurance race. The champions in the professional division will bring home a USD30,000 or P1.5 million prize each.
The Ironman 70.3 is one of a series of long distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation. – gb
