A 37-year old man in Ifugao reportedly died due to non-stop heavy rains brought about by southwest monsoon or “habagat” and Typhoon Henry.
According to reports, the landslide victim was trapped in the house of his brother in Sitio Natulan to secure his motorcycle.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), huge damages to infrastructure brought by strong winds and heavy rains are not expected. However, the agriculture sector may sustain more damages due to the typhoon.
NDRRMC Deputy Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Raffy Alejandro IV said Typhoon Henry will not have a massive impact in the country since it will not have a landfall, though they are still monitoring the typhoon in Batanes and Sta. Ana town in Cagayan.
“Yung mga nasa high-risk zones itong mga identified barangays na ito ay dapat gumalaw na, mag-observe at implement preparedness measures para maiwasan po ang casualty o ang disgrasya po,” he said.
Alejandro assured the public that they are ready for any possible effect of the typhoon.
“So ready po kami to augment itong mga LGU na nangangailangan, so yung buong konseho ng NDRRMC ay naka blue alert at lahat ng response sa agencies natin na halos naka red na, [on] standby to move at any given notice,” he added.
Meanwhile, as part of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) preparedness effort, quick response teams are already on full alert.
According to DSWD data, a total of P1.5 billion is on standby for disaster relief operations.
Moreover, more than 500,000 family food packs have been prepositioned as well as non-food items worth P424 million, while a P600 million fund is on standby from the central office. —Report from Ryan Lesigues/KC-ag
