10 Chinese fugitives to be deported Friday

MANILA — The 10 Chinese nationals arrested last week in Metro Manila and Pampanga are set to be deported Friday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.

BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the apprehended foreigners are wanted by authorities in Beijing for serious offenses, including economic crimes, internet fraud and smuggling.

“Upon checking with our deportation unit, they are scheduled for deportation today (Friday),” she said in a text message, when asked on the flight schedule of the deportees.

Meanwhile, BI Intelligence Officer Bobby Raquepo noted that the fugitives’ passports were cancelled, making them undocumented aliens subject to summary deportation.

The head of the Bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) added that the biggest apprehension happened on June 18, where seven Chinese nationals — Li Tian Feng, Duan Tingting, Li Miao, Zou Wang, Zhang Hailong, Wang Liao, and Huang Zongyou– were nabbed during a raid of a condominium unit on Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.

They are reportedly wanted for economic crimes and cyber fraud that victimized many of their fellow Chinese.

Last July 17, FSU agents and airport anti-smuggling operatives arrested a certain Wang Xiaobo, who is subject of an Interpol red notice for involvement in smuggling, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)

The BI also collared a Chinese woman, Cai Miao Ling, inside her unit at the Tuscany Private Residences in McKinley Hills, Taguig City on July 19.

Also apprehended was Ji Jingxiu, who is also wanted for cyber fraud and economic crimes, on Friendship Highway in Angeles City, Pampanga on July 22.

“There will be no letup in the BI’s campaign to catch foreign fugitives so long as there are aliens who go to the Philippines to avoid arrest and punishment for crimes they committed in their homelands,” Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.

“We are in close coordination with our foreign counterparts to ensure that justice will be served,” he added. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
