11K passengers stranded in ports due to ‘Urduja’

MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said more than 11,000 passengers were stranded in seaports across the country as Tropical Storm Urduja continues to move closer to the northern-eastern Samar area Saturday.

In its latest advisory, the PCG said that 11,101 passengers were stranded in ports in Southern Tagalog, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas.

At least 1,322 vessels, 52 rolling cargoes and 33 motor bancas cancelled their trips as “Urduja” unleashes its wrath over the Eastern Visayas region this weekend.

State weather bureau, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), in its latest weather bulletin, said that “Urduja” continues to move westward closer to the northern-eastern Samar area and is expected to make landfall on Saturday afternoon or evening.

Tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) no. 2 has been hoisted over the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate including Burias, Ticao Islands, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte.

TCWS no. 1 is raised over Southern Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Northern Negros Oriental, Cebu, Northern Bohol, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
