Don’t forget your water, folks!

Summer is indeed upon us, with PAGASA’s earlier issuance of an El Niño alert setting the tone for the rise of temperatures in various parts of the country, and Filipinos having to deal with the sweltering heat in the next few months.

This, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released a heat index alert that outlines expected peak temperatures in places across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Among the locales that will experience searing hot weather on Monday are as follows:

  • Aparri, Cagayan (42°C)
  • Sangley Point, Cavite (43°C)
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (43°C)
  • Puerto Princesa City, Palawan (43°C)
  • Aborlan, Palawan (43°C)
  • Cuyo, Palawan (43°C)
  • Daet, Camarines Norte (42°C)
  • Iloilo City, Iloilo (42°C)
  • Dumangas, Iloilo (43°C)
  • La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental (42°C)
  • Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Norte (42°C)
  • Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (43°C)

PAGASA defines heat index as the measurement of the temperature felt by the human body in conjunction with humidity. The “danger” category consists of heat indices between 42°C to 51°C.

The state weather agency also warns the public of the effects of prolonged exposure to such high temperatures, which may include dehydration, fatigue, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

Meanwhile, no low pressure areas are being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, the state weather bureau said.
