14 hurt in Zamboanga highway mishap

ZAMBOANGA CITY – More or less 14 people, including five children, were injured in a highway accident in a west coast barangay of this city, a police official said Monday.

Senior Insp. Shellamie Chang, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) information officer, said the accident happened around 10:45 a.m. Monday in Zone 1-A, Barangay Cawit, 13.35 kilometers west of city hall.

Chang identified the victims as Nurhana Kamlian, 48; Islay Nuring, 26; Abser Manalos, 24; Ainalyn Alipuddin, 46; Amir Alih, 39; Nur-aina Isdari, 24; Abdil Aziz Isdari, 21; Aldrin Isdari, 18; Mawa Isdari, 55; Khalifa Abdusala, 14; Mihada Isdari, 14; Alizza Cabbah, 10; Mawaddah Alih, 10; and, Jumadil Sarabi, 12.

Investigation showed the victims were injured as the jeepney they were riding crashed into an electric post and turned upside down after its driver, Amir Alih, lost control of the steering wheel when the jeepney’s brake malfunctioned while negotiating a curved road.

Chang said the victims are all family members and just came from Upper Cawit to settle an elopement matter. They were taken to different hospitals in this city. (Teofilo Garcia Jr./PNA)
