16K passengers stranded in ports due to ‘Urduja’

MANILA — More than 16,000 passengers were stranded in ports across the country on Sunday in the wake of the onslaught of tropical storm “Urduja.”

In its latest advisory, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said a total of 16,449 passengers were stranded after 118 sea vessels, 1,711 rolling cargoes and 37 motor bancas suspended their trips in affected areas of National Capital Region, Eastern and Southern Visayas, Bicol and Southern Tagalog.

State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its latest weather bulletin that ‘Urduja’ has slightly weakened after crossing Samar provinces and is now over Masbate province.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 1 is raised over the southern part of Occidental Mindoro, southern part of Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Sorsogon, Masbate including Burias and Ticao Islands, and northern part of Palawan including Cuyo and Calamian Group of Islands. (PNA)
