Philippine Quincentennial Museum, binuksan na

Binuksan na sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon ang Philippine Quincentennial Museum sa Cebu nitong Lunes (ika-26 ng Abril) bilang bahagi ng selebrasyon ng ika-limandaang taong anibersaryo ng Victory at Mactan.  

 Ito ang natatanging museo sa bansa kung saan makikita ang sinauna at masaganang pamumuhay ng ating mga ninuno bago ang pananakop ng mga Kastila limang daang taon na ang nakaraan.

Makikita rito ang mahalagang papel ng bansa sa ekspedisyon ni Ferdinand Magellan at Juan Sebastian Elcano o mga kauna-unahang tao na naglayag ng paikot sa buong mundo.

Ang okasyon ay dinaluhan ng mga opisyal ng pamahalaan kabilang sina Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Governor Gwen Garcia, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino, at ilang alkalde at kongresista mula sa iba’t-ibang lokalidad ng Cebu.

“It was here in Cebu that we had initial contacts with our brothers and sisters. But it was also here in Cebu that the Filipinos stood the whole world, we will die for our country,” pahayag ni Roque.

Ayon naman kay Xiao Chua na isang historyador, ang selebrasyon ay isang mahalagang pagkakataon para magbalik-tanaw at “magdiwang kung sino tayo [at kung] sino ang mga ninuno natin.”

“Dapat alalahanin natin sa mga panahon na may mga malalaking hamon tayo, na dumadaloy sa dugo natin ang dugo ng Mactanon na si Lapu-Lapu,” dagdag ni Chua.  – Ulat ni John Aroa/PTV Cebu/AG-jlo
