1st LD: 497 Filipino athletes to compete in 2017 SEAG

MANILA, June 28- The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on Wednesday approved the entry by names of 497 athletes that will see action in the 29th Southeast Asian Games set in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia starting Aug. 14.

The list was presented by delegation head Cynthia Carreon and Tom Carassco, who were tasked in the screening and selection of Team Philippines during the sports body’s board meeting.

Carreon said out of the 497 athletes, 58 players are in the developmental.

Team Philippines is also represented by 163 coaches, 70 support group to include medical, secretariat and 13 technical officials.

Carreon said the list will be submitted to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for the proper funding.

She estimated that PHP 100 million will be a “reasonable” amount to be appropriated by the government in the country’s campaign in the meet.

The Philippines will be competing in 37 out of 38 sports disciplines for the 405 total .(Primo P.Agatep/PNA)
