2 Arrested for Overpricing and Profiteering in Binondo

Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office Regional Special Operations Group together with MPD, DID-DPIOU, DSOU, MPD PS11 and MPD PS3 conducted an entrapment operation together with Atty. Jojo Jacob of DTI for the arrest of hoarders of medical supplies who sell for unreasonable or much higher price compared to the suggested retail price.

The entrapment operation was undertaken at about 5:15 PM of March 25, 2020 at HS Commercial Tower Condominium Inc., Alvarado Street, Barangay 292, Binondo, Manila.

Arrested during the operation were Jun Martin Lim y Chen, 22 years old, single, student a resident of No. 1502 Bambang Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila and Nina Ong, female, 38 years old, Merchandise Caretaker a resident of No. 19A, Fortune Palace Condominium, Juan Luna Street, Binondo, Manila.

“We are in the middle of a health crisis here. Everyday, the number of infected by Covid 19 increases. Our front liners and the public needs protective equipment yet some greedy persons hoard and resell these precious commodity for profit. Please, let us stop this. Let us help out each other instead. This is the only way to surpass this pandemic.” Said PMGEN SINAS

Recovered from the suspects were Eleven (11) boxes of Face Mask containing 650 pieces face masks each pack, Six (6) boxes of latex examination gloves containing 6000 pairs, three (3) boxes of PPE/Surgical Suits containing 127 pieces of surgical suits, nine (9) boxes containing 355 pieces infrared thermometer, five (5) boxes disposable face masks containing 230 packs and 1000 peso bill boodle money worth 1M pesos including the genuine one thousand peso bill dusted money with serial number EN312238.

A case for violation of RA 7394 (Overpricing under the Consumer Act of the Philippines) and RA 7581 (An Act of Profiteering under the Price Act) will be filed against the suspects.
