2 crew hurt as ship catches fire in Cebu

Two members of a ship crew obtained injuries after the ship caught fire in the vicinity waters off Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu, Saturday, July 16.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said MV Trans Asia 1 caught fire around 2:00 a.m.

Seven crew members and one security guard were on board during the incident.

According to initial reports, the said vessel was already grounded after sustaining damages during the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in December 2021.

“The eight individuals were on board to ensure that the vessel’s equipment and materials will not be stolen,” PCG said.
