2-day exhibit on ASEAN fabric slated Nov. 7 to 8

LOS BAŇOS, Laguna – A two-day textile exhibit “TELA ASEAN,” featuring world-class fabric from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will be held on Tuesday until Wednesday (Nov. 7 to 8) at the SMX Convention Center Aura, McKinley Parkway at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.

In a report on Monday, the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) with support from the ASEAN Foundation and PCIEERD, will showcase the various textiles of the region as one of the sidelights a week before the country’s hosting of the ASEAN Leaders’ Summit in Manila next week.

“TELA (Textiles Empowering Lives Anew) ASEAN” textile conference,  themed “Weaves of Change: Fostering Ties that Bind,”   is also one of the events in celebration of the Philippines as host of ASEAN’s 50th anniversary year.

DOST-PTRI said the textile exhibit draws attention to the numerous textile industries that thrive in the 10 ASEAN member-countries with this year’s host Philippines and Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The exhibit will showcase the hand-woven fabrics, natural dyes and naturally dyed products that are being used by peoples all over the Southeast Asian region, depicting each country’s rich heritage, craft, character and culture.
