2 dead, 10 hurt in 3 highway mishaps in North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – Two motorists were killed and 10 others were injured, including a soldier, in three separate vehicular accidents in Kidapawan City and in Makilala, North Cotabato over the weekend and early Monday.

At past 1 a.m. Monday, two motorcycles collided along the Kidapawan-Ilomavis road in Barangay Sudapen, Kidapawan City, which led to the death of Chin Lee Galvez Treyes, 18, of Samonte Subdivision in Kidapawan, and Mosatar Dela Cerna, 29, of Barangay Kibia, Matalam, North Cotabato.

Supt. Ramel Hojilla, Kidapawan City police director, said in an interview over a local radio station that both victims were riding on separate motorbikes when they collided at 1 a.m. along the national highway. Due to the impact, Treyes died on the spot while Dela Cerna was rushed by residents to a hospital where he later expired.

In a similar accident on Saturday noon, two motorists were critically injured after their motorbikes collided in front of a gasoline station along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion, Makilala, North Cotabato.

The injured were Antonio Feria Gajeton, 51, of Barangay Bulakanon, Makilala, and Army Corporal Arnel Badana Pecana, 40, of M’lang, also in North Cotabato. Both are now recuperating at a hospital in Makilala.

Also on Saturday, eight persons were hurt when two Toyota Hi-Ace passenger vans collided in Barangay Binoligan, Kidapawan City.

Hojilla said the collision occurred at about 8:50 p.m. involving a van (LGY-435) driven Alan Rex Serapion, 36, of Kabacan, North Cotabato and another van driven by Bhong Takbir, 46, of Datu Paglas, Maguindanao. Both drivers and six passengers were injured in the incident. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
