Two fisherfolk were rescued by a foreign cargo vessel after their boat capsized in the waters off Agno, Pangasinan on Dec. 30, 2023, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.

Randy Arbollyenty, 30, and Mark Kimber, 37 were onboard motorized banca (MBCA) WS when big waves hit the motor banca, causing it to overturn at around 2:00 a.m.

After five hours of being afloat, they were rescued by MV Wadi Almalikat, an Egyptian-flagged bulk carrier.

The PCG and the Philippine Navy vessel BRP Nestor Reinoso responded to assist the rescued fisherfolk.

At 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2023, the Egyptian-flagged vessel turned over the rescued fisherfolk to the Philippine authorities.

They arrived at Sual Fish Port in Sual, Pangasinan, where they underwent medical checkup and were later declared to be in good physical condition. –cf
