2 militiamen injured in Basilan explosion

ZAMBOANGA CITY–Two militiamen were injured in an explosion at a checkpoint in Isabela City, Basilan province, a police official said Wednesday.

Supt. Glizen Niño Manese, Isabela City police officer-in-charge, identified the victims as Raylick Ramos, 29, and Hakim Jaddi, 35, both under the supervision of the Army’s 4th Special Forces Company.

Manese said the incident happened around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City.

He said the two were injured when an undetermined explosive went off while troops from the Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion, backed by militiamen, were conducting a checkpoint in the area.

Both Ramos and Jaddi were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Manese said the incident is being investigated to determine the type of explosive used, as well as the identities of the perpetrators. (PNA)
