2 soldiers killed in ambush

LEGAZPI CITY — Suspected members of the New People Army (NPA) rebels ambushed on Tuesday afternoon two Philippine Army soldiers in Barangay (village) Panoypoy in Camalig town, Albay, a military report said.

Killed were Army Private First Class (PFC) Cris Aron Consolation and Emmanuel Clarinal, both members of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Battalion, Army Capt. Joash Pramis of the 9th Infantry Division said.

The two soldiers were on board a motorcycle bound for the village at around 4:45 p.m. when a group of suspected NPA rebels attacked them with assault rifles, killing them there and then.

Army troopers are on pursuit operation and have set up checkpoints in areas believed to be used as an escape route by the fleeing rebels. (Mar Serrano/PNA)
