Two volcanic earthquakes and 306 rockfall events were recorded in Mayon Volcano, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Thursday, June 15.
These are slightly lower than the seven quakes and 309 rockfall events reported on the morning of June 14, covering the past 24-hour period.
The Phivolcs said there were also three pyroclastic density current events that lasted for three to six minutes.
Still observed in the volcano network is the very slow effusion of lava and a fair crater glow or “banaag”.
An average of 193 tonnes of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission was also recorded on June 14.
The volcano remains inflated and under Alert Level 3 or high level of unrest, with the possibility of hazardous eruption within weeks or even days.
The six-kilometer permanent danger zone remains and flying close to Mayon’s summit is still prohibited.
