2 weather systems to bring rains over VisMin, Palawan

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Two weather systems will cause rains over the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan, the weather bureau said on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the easterlies will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Davao region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sarangani, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and southern Palawan.

Isolated rain showers will prevail over the Visayas, the rest of Mindanao, and the rest of Palawan, also due to the easterlies.

In its 4:00 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said these areas may experience flash floods or landslides during scattered moderate to heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon affecting Luzon will cause light rains over the Ilocos provinces, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon.

It will also cause isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will continue to prevail over the entire archipelago.

Strong to gale-force winds will be experienced over the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and the Visayas, eastern seaboards of Mindanao, the northern seaboard of northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of northern and central Luzon.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea crafts not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (PNA) – bny
