200 Laguna gun owners show at firearm licensing caravan

CAMP GEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Sta. Cruz, Laguna – Around 200 Laguna gun owners availed of the two-day License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) Caravan at the provincial police command headquarters covered court here, Laguna police provincial director Senior Supt. Kirby John Brion Kraft said Friday.

Kraft said the two-day gun (Aug. 7 to 8) registration and licensing caravan was held in cooperation with the local government unit (LGU) of this Laguna provincial capital town of Sta. Cruz.

He said the 200 gun-owners comprised municipal and barangay officials and employees, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other legitimate gun holders in Sta. Cruz and from adjacent towns.

However, he pointed out that “gun owners have undergone neuro-psychiatric examination, drug test, and gun safety seminar among others,” before they could avail of the LTOPF procedure.

Supt. Vincent C. Templo, chief of the Laguna provincial police public information office, said the LTOPF aims to bring the PNP services closer to the people as it encourages non-licensed gun owners, including those with expired licenses, to avail of the licensing services.

Templo said the LTOPF caravan is in compliance with the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition (Republic Act 10591), and as part of the police organization’s campaign against crime, stop the proliferation of illegal firearms or weapons and the illegal manufacture of firearms or weapons and ammunitions.

Besides the Laguna police partnership with the Sta. Cruz LGU, through Mayor Engr. Domingo G. Panganiban, the event was also staged in coordination with the Sta. Cruz Municipal Police Station, Calabarzon Regional Police Office Regional Civil Security Unit , Regional Crime Laboratory Office and Regional Finance Service Office (RFSO); as well as the Department of Health Regional Office 4A. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
