The Philippine women’s national football team won their first-ever international trophy, defeating Thailand, 3-0, in the finals of the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship on Sunday night, July 17, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium before a record crowd of about 8,000.

The Filipinas were all business from the start, scoring two goals in the first half.

The first came courtesy of Jessika Cowart at the seven-minute mark, courtesy of an assist from Tahnai Annis.

The second goal came from Katrina Guillou at the 21-minute mark.

The third goal came in the second half with Sarina Bolden scoring at the 90-minute mark.

The win also avenged the Filipinas’ loss to Thailand last Tuesday, losing 1-0 in their Group A match.

Before Sunday’s win, the best finish of the Philippines was in 2019 in Thailand. At the time, they lost to Myanmar, 3-0, in the battle for the bronze.
