20K elderly in Antique to receive unconditional cash transfer

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – An estimated 20,000 elderly in the province are entitled to receive the national government’s unconditional cash transfer (UCT) through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to cushion the effects of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.

Melrose Amaran, head of the DSWD office in Antique, said the UCT, amounting to PHP2,400, is a one shot deal assistance to 64 years old and above senior citizens who had been identified through the National Household Targeting System (NHTS).

“We are just waiting for the payroll so we would know exactly how many seniors would be given this UCT,” Amaran said in an interview Friday.

She said the PHP2,400, or PHP200 per month assistance to the beneficiaries, will be released by the DSWD through the Land Bank of the Philippines.

“Hopefully, we could release the amount within this month,” she said.

She further said the assistance could go a long way to help the beneficiaries in buying milk and food.

The UCT is being implemented nationwide to help indigents cope with the economic impact of the TRAIN Law . (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
