22-K cops on standby for Super Typhoon ‘Mawar’

Almost 22,000 police personnel are on standby for search, rescue, and retrieval operations in preparation for the impact of Super Typhoon “Mawar,” the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday, May 26.

PNP BGen. Red Maranan, the chief of PNP’s Public Information Office, said 18,000 equipment and assets have also been prepositioned for their operations.

“Na-activate ang ating Disaster Incident Management Task Group na mangunguna at magsusupervise sa lahat ng gagawin [ng] ating mga personnel bilang pagresponde sa magiging epekto ng bagyo sa bansa,” he said.

“Mayroon din tayong inihanda na mahigit 2,000 na land mobility assets, at iyong ating sea assets ay naka pre-position na rin po nang sa ganoon, kung sakaling kakailanganin ay ready kaming rumesponde,” he added.

The official said their personnel on standby are trained to conduct search, rescue, and retrieval operations on landslide incidents.

Maranan said they are also in communication with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and with local government units.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang ating ginagawang coordination meeting at na-update lahat nang sa ganoon isa lang ang kumpas, isa lang ang direksyon ng ating paghahanda at pagresponde kung kinakailangan,” he said.

Super Typhoon “Mawar” is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Friday night and early Saturday morning.
