26 aftershocks hit Catanduanes after 6.2-magnitude quake; tsunami advisory lifted

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a total of 26 aftershocks following the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that hit offshore Gigmoto,Catanduanes Tuesday night, April 4.

As of 4:00 a.m., Phivolcs recorded 26 aftershocks and plotted six earthquakes.

However, of the number, none of them were felt. Magnitudes range from 2.4 to 4.9.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs canceled its tsunami advisory which it released Tuesday night.

“Based on available data of our sea level monitoring stations facing the epicentral area, no significant sea level disturbances have been recorded since the 8:54 p.m. earthquake up until this cancellation of the advisory,” the advisory read.

“[Any] effects due to minor sea level disturbances have largely passed and therefore DOST-Phivolcs has now cancelled the recommendations issued for the event,” it further read. — gb
