ZAMBOANGA CITY–Some 2,000 indigent families in selected barangays in this city on Monday received food packs from the Pilipinong May Puso Foundation.

The foundation was created in memory of “Nanay Soling Duterte (Soledad Duterte)”, the mother of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles of the first district of Davao City led the distribution of the food packs in Barangay Baliwasan on behalf of the Pilipinong May Puso Foundation.

The distribution of food packs was a side activity of Nograles’ dialogue with the students of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) on the implementation of the Republic Act 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act

Rep. Celso Lobregat of this city’s first district joined Nograles in the distribution of the food packs.

The indigent-families who received the food packs were from the Barangays San Jose Gusu, Campo Islam, San Jose-Cawa-Cawa, Sto. Niño, Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 4 and Sta. Catalina aside from Baliwasan.

“We choose Baliwasan as the distribution center so that the beneficiaries, who are from nearby barangays, will not be spending so much for fare in claiming their food packs,” Lobregat explained.

“I am very happy to be with you this morning, we are giving you these food packs from the Pilipinong May Puso Foundation as part of the advocacy of President Rodrigo Duterte in honor of his late mother, aimed to help the indigent families,” Nograles said.

Meanwhile, Nograles urged the recipients to rally behind Lobregat’s program for the poor and for the progress of the city.

Nograles is the chairperson while Lobregat is the vice chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations in the House of Representatives.

The students who attended the dialogue on RA 10931 conducted by Nograles were from the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College, Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, Southern City Colleges, and Western Mindanao State University. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
