RIO DE JANEIRO — At least three people were killed and 13 injured in shootings at two schools on Friday in Aracruz, a city in southeast Brazil’s Espirito Santo state, officials said.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy suspected of carrying out the killings some four hours later at his home, State Governor Renato Casagrande said.

According to the state’s regional secretary of public security, the suspect entered the Primo Bitti public school with a pistol, went into the teachers’ room and opened fire, killing two teachers and injuring several others.

He then drove a car to the Praia de Coqueiral School, where he shot and killed a 16-year-old student and wounded several others before fleeing.

According to the Military Police, the suspect, who was wearing camouflage clothing and a hoodie during the attacks, acted alone. – gb
