3 public schools in Nueva Ecija receive DOST Starbooks

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — Three public schools in this province have become the latest recipients of the first digital science library in the Philippines, the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks (Starbooks) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The six Starbooks kiosks were turned over Tuesday to the Cuyapo National High School; Bartolome Sanggalang National High School and Sto. Domingo National Trade School by DOST Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat, Nueva Ecija First District Rep. Estrellita Suansing and Nueva Ecija Schools Division Superintendent Ronaldo Pozon.

Each school received two units of the Starbooks kiosk, which is a stand-alone information source that operates even without the use of Internet.

“This kiosk contains 100,000 books which in just one click you can research the topic about science and technology even without WIFI network. This also includes videos that will teach our constituents on how to have livelihood,” Suansing said.

The launching of DOST Starbooks under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program here was held through the lawmaker’s initiative.

The lady solon asked the school officials to take care of the Starbooks  so that it can still be used by future students for years to come.

Pozon, menwhile, said “the Starbooks will widen the information resource material that our students will need in all their studies, researches and their regular academic concerns. I hope the DOST would reach out to more academic institutions so that everybody can have access to these information.”

Sicat, on the other hand, said the Starbooks is DOST’s response to the call to make science and technology available to more students. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
