31st Hanoi SEA Games, opisyal nang nagbukas

Opisyal nang nagbukas ang ika-31 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games ngayong gabi, Mayo 12, na itinanghal sa My Dinh Stadium sa Hanoi, Vietnam sa pangalawang pagkakataon.

Matapos ang ilang taong event restrictions at isang taong pagkakaudlot ng SEA Games dahil sa pandemya, muli na namang makararanas ng matinding aksiyon ang mga top athletes mula sa 11 nasyon ng Timog Silangang Asya.

Pinangunahan ni Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena ang pagparada ng Philippine team bilang tagabitbit ng watawat ng bansa sa opening ceremony.

Binubuo ng 981 katao ang Philippine team delegation sa biennial meet, kung saan 641 dito ay mga atletang makikipagbakbakan sa 38 sports ng patimpalak.

Nasa 318 officials naman at 18 support staff ang magiging gabay ng Philippine team sa kompetisyon sa pangunguna ni SEA Games chef de mission at Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Ramon Fernandez.

Bago ang opening, agad na pinatikim ng Philippine team ang kanilang lupit sa biennial sportsfest sa pagsungkit ng isang ginto, limang silver, at limang bronze upang kasalukuyang makaupo ang bansa sa ikaapat na puwesto ng SEA Games rankings.

Sa ngayon, ay nangunguna ang Vietnam sa rankings na mayroong 10 golds, seven silvers, at nine bronze na sinundan ng Malaysia at Indonesia. – ag
