369,148 ordinance violators apprehended in Metro Manila: NCRPO

MANILA — Close to 370,000 persons in Metro Manila were apprehended for violation of local ordinances since June this year.

Data from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) show that as of 5 a.m. Friday (October 12), there were a total of 369,148 persons apprehended due to drinking in public places with 17,424 (4.72%); smoking ban with 115,778 (31.36%); half naked with 25,584 (6.93%); minor violating curfew hours with 24,713 (6.69%); and other various violations of city ordinances in Metro Manila with 185,649 (50.29%).

The period covered is from June 13, 2018.

NCRPO Chief Supt. Director Guillermo Eleazar said that Quezon City Police District remain the top performer in the implementation, with 210,632 violators arrested or 57.6 percent of those arrested in Metro Manila.

The Eastern Police District placed second with 79,536 (21.55%) persons apprehended followed by the Manila Police District with 34,370 (9.31%), and Southern Police District with 26,262 (7.11%). The Northern Police District has 18,348 (4.97%) persons apprehended.

But Eleazar was quick to clarify that violators are immediately released after paying fine or due to humanitarian considerations.

Based on the NCRPO data, 66,776 of arrested violators have been fined while 44,145 were charged.
