A total of 3,992 of 9,183 aspiring lawyers passed the 2022 Bar examinations, the Supreme Court (SC) announced Friday, April 14.
Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, the 2022 Bar examination chairperson, said this translates to a passing rate of 43.47%. A total of 31 examinees obtained the 30 highest ratings.
Topping the examination was Czar Matthew Gerard Dayday from the University of the Philippines (UP) with a score of 88.8083%.
Taking the second to fifth spots are UP alumni Erickson Mariñas with a 88.7666% score, Christiane Cregencia with 87.9667%, Andrea Jasmine Yu with 87.7750%, and Kim Gia Gatapia with 87.4250%.
At the sixth place was Gabriel Gil Baes from the University of San Carlos with a 87.2500% rating, followed by Luigi Nico Reyes from San Beda College Alabang with 87.1917%.
The eighth to 11th spots were clinched by Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) alumni Rio Mei Uy with 87.0582%, Mark David Vergara with 87.0083%, Jaims Gabriel Orencia with 86.9001%, and Reina Marie Cayanong with 86.8832%.
Top performing schools
For schools with over 100 total Bar candidates, AdMU ranked first with a 96.74% passing rate or 178 passers from its 184 takers.
San Beda University placed second with 96.67% of 174 passers of 180 takers, followed by UP with 94.27% or 214 passers out of 227 candidates.
The University of San Carlos (USC) placed fourth with 91.43% or 192 passers of 210 takers, while the University of Santo Tomas (UST) placed fifth with 78.09% or 139 passers of 178 candidates.

For first-time takes with over 100 candidates, San Beda University posted a 97.58% passing rate with 161 passers of 165 takers, AdMU with 97.24%, UP with 95.02%, USC with 93.47%, and UST with 79.87%.
The High Court said there are 134 schools with candidates who completed the exam, while 123 schools had successful candidates. – cf
