3G parks in Ilocos Norte boost children’s school performance

LAOAG CITY — Three-generational (3G) playground and fitness parks in several towns in the first and second districts of Ilocos Norte now inspire children to go to school and help boost their academic performance.

A 3G-park is a communal space, wherein children, as well as adults and even elderlies, can engage in active play or exercise.

“The park is a great boost to our children’s learning experience. It develops them physically, mentally and socially,” said Milagros Ladia, principal of Bingao Elementary School in San Nicolas town following the inauguration of another 3G park there on Monday.

Senior Provincial Board Member Matthew Joseph Manotoc, chairperson of the committee on sports and education, said a total of 12 rural schools already established 3G parks in Ilocos Norte and these shall be eventually opened to the general public, even after classes or during weekends.

He said more 3G parks are being established in primary schools in the province to promote active lifestyle and overall wellness in local communities.

These, he added, are being built under the Special Education Fund of Ilocos Norte, in cooperation with the Department of Education, and in line with Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” R. Marcos’ vision to make the province “livable, sustainable, and resilient through the provision of recreational activities to strengthen community relations”.

The municipalities of Dumalneg, Pagudpud and Carasi in the first district; and in Pinili, Dingras, San Nicolas and Badoc in the second district already have their own 3G parks. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
