ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) has reminded the public that the implementation of the election gun ban will continue as long as there is no law postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections set this month.
“If the election is postponed, then automatically the gun ban is lifted,” said PRO 6 spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero on Monday.
This, as the PRO 6 has recorded four apprehensions of the gun ban since it took effect October 1. These include one case each in cities of Bacolod and Iloilo and Aklan and Iloilo provinces.
The latest apprehension happened in Brgy 6, Bacolod City, 4:30 Monday morning. The suspect, Alex T. Barredo, 24 years old and resident of Silay City, was collared by Police Station 2 when he ignored the policemen who approached him upon seeing the firearm that was bulging at his waist.
Instead, Barredo shot Police Officer 2 Joash Bompat who fortunately was not hit by the bullet.
The policemen recovered from the suspect one Smith and Wesson revolver and five pieces unfired cartridges. He was also in possession of three pieces elongated sachet of suspected shabu, one hand grenade and one sling bag.
The first apprehension, meanwhile, was during a checkpoint in Brgy. Poblacion, San Rafael, Iloilo around 12:05 a.m. of October 1. Charlie Arante Y. Bedoy, 34, a resident of Sitio Proper A. Brgy. San Florentino also of the same town, was arrested for possessing 10 live ammunitions of 12 gauge shot gun.
In Brgy. Lapuz Norte, Lapaz district of this city, 44-year old Julius L. Borromeo was arrested after poking a .38 caliber revolver to Leo Borromeo during a commotion.
On Sunday evening, 54-year old Dante T. Geronimo of Sitio Ambulong, Brgy. Manoc-manoc, Malay in Aklan was invited for questioning for theft by the local police. However, upon the conduct of a body search, authorities found in his possession one live ammunition each of .38 caliber and . 22 caliber revolver and one fired cartridge case of .22 caliber revolver.
The arrested persons are now detained in the respective police stations of places where they were apprehended.
