400 cyclists to join 435th ‘Aggao nac Cagayan’ festival

TUGUEGARAO CITY — At least 400 cyclists will join the first-ever Audax Randonneurs cycling event in Ilocos Region on June 23, 2018.

The event, dubbed: “Grand Pedal Viaje,” will be the pre-opening activity of the 435th founding anniversary of the civil government of the province, or the Aggao Nac Cagayan Festival.

The cycling event, the first of its kind in Cagayan Valley and Ilocos Region, is also one of the flagship activities of the provincial government of Cagayan.

Grand Pedal Viaje is an activity organized with Audax Randonneurs Philippines and Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA).

Tomi Arugay, the event officer-in-charge, said the audax event will help promote eco-sports and ecotourism in the province, aside from promoting healthy living.

The event is open to any cyclist who can register for 200 km or 300 km events. The expected route will be from Tuguegarao City to Gonzaga with 200 km, and Gonzaga to Santa Ana, Cagayan with 300 km.

No prizes are at stake but completers of the audax can later qualify for other international audax.

Local cyclists as well as celebrities and foreigners are expected for the Grand Pedal Viaje.

Arugay noted that some local bikers are already practicing for the event.

This year’s Aggao nac Cagayan will also feature events from different parts of the province.

Marian voyage and street dancing contest will also highlight the 2018 Aggao nac Cagayan celebration, which runs from June 23 to July 1 with the theme “Cagayan looking northward.” (Simeon Dilan/PNA)
