4K kg. of bangus set to be grilled for April 30 fest

DAGUPAN CITY — The City Agriculture Office here has assured a sufficient supply of milkfish (bangus) to be grilled on 800 or more barbecue grills for the “Bangusan Street Party” along De Venecia Road on April 30.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday, City Agriculturist Emma Molina said 4,000 kg. of milkfish have been set aside since February for the annual party.

“The bangus to be grilled during the street party are grown on fish ponds in the city,” Molina said.

She denied that there is a low supply of milkfish amid the prevailing high price, from PHP130 to PHP135 per kg. compared to PHP98 to PHP105 per kg. in the same period last year.

“There are other factors affecting the price of bangus, aside from the supply and demand, as we also have to consider the costs of inputs, such as the price of fingerlings, feeds, and cost of labor,” Molina said.

City Tourism Officer Sharon Maramba said that as of Friday, out of the 800 available grills, only 70 grills are left for purchase.

She said the grills are sold at PHP3,500 each per package, which includes the barbecue grill, 5 kg. of milk fish, charcoal, and 1.75 liters of soft drinks, among others.

“We will make available additional grills if in case it will be needed,” Maramba said.

The grill package is available for sale to the public until April 29.

Artists like Gloc 9, Six Cyclemind, X Batallion, Moira, Bamboo, Silent Sanctuary, December Avenue and many more will grace the Bangusan Street Party as part of the city’s Bangus Festival 2018.

Maramba said the committee continues to conduct meetings to ensure an enjoyable and safe street party.

The city’s month-long Bangus Festival began last April 3 with sports activities throughout the first week. (PNA)
