5.1-magnitude quake strikes off Davao Occidental

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of the town of Sarangani in Davao Occidental, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported Sunday, Oct. 23.

The tremor hit 447 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island.

It had a depth of 259 km and was tectonic in origin.

Phivolcs said no damages were reported.

Aftershocks from the quake are not expected.
