5.4 magnitude quake jolts Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY — A 5.4 magnitude quake shook Cagayan province at 3:43 a.m. Monday, April 16.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) specialist Lito Aquino said the quake’s epicenter was located at 39 kilometers and 42 degrees east of Gonzaga, Cagayan. It is tectonic in origin and has depth of 23 kilometers.

Local authorities, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) immediately monitored any damages brought by the quake that was felt in other towns of Cagayan. There were no reported damages on infrastructure.

National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) information officer Lilibeth Gaydowen said the Luzon grid remains intact as there had been no reported cases of power interruptions and damaged transmission facilities in Cagayan Valley and nearby areas where the earthquake was felt. (Simeon Dilan/PNA)
