5.5-magnitude quake jolts parts of Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit some parts of the province at 4:34 p.m. Thursday, state seismologists said.

The tectonic quake’s epicenter was located at 25 km. southwest of Calayan in Cagayan, at a depth of 24 km. the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor was felt at Intensity 4 by some residents of Laoag City, Bacarra, Pasuquin and Vintar in Ilocos Norte; Intensity 3 in Cervantes and Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Intensity 2 in Peñablanca, Cagayan; and Intensity 1 in Vigan City.

Residents in nearby areas have been advised to take precautionary measures due to expected aftershocks.
