5.7-magnitude quake jolts Davao Oriental town, aftershocks expected

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Tarragona, Davao Oriental Monday afternoon, Sept. 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, hit 173 kilometers (km) Southeast of Tarragona at 4:14 p.m.

It had a depth of focus of 27 km.

Intensity II was felt in Davao City; Mati City, Manay, and San Isidro in Davao Oriental; while Intensity I was felt in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity II was recorded in Malungon, Sarangani; Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Alabel, Sarangani; Koronadal City and General Santos, South Cotabato; and Davao City.

No damages were reported but aftershocks are expected.
