5 community ports to rise in northern Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — Five community ports in some islands in northern Iloilo will be constructed in 2018, according to Fifth District Representative Raul Tupas on Monday.

These community ports will be constructed in Polopiña and Tambaliza islands in Concepcion, Iloilo; and Calagnaan, Gigantes Sur and Gigantes Norte islands in Carles, Iloilo.

Tupas said that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will fund and implement the project.

Unlike big and main ports, community ports will only cost from PHP15 to PHP25 million, Tupas said.

“These projects are in support to the program on eco-tourism in Concepcion and Carles because these are where the major islands are,” he said.

He also stressed that the community ports will be of big help to the people in the islands because it is where the small bancas will dock, especially when they are bringing tourists in.

Aside from the community ports, the port of Bancal in Carles town will also undergo rehabilitation with a budget of PHP40 million.

Tupas said that total budget for the community ports and the rehabilitation will be around PHP210 million.

The congressman assured that the projects will push through since the DOTr has already recommended the projects to the Executive Budget of the President and were already approved by the House of Representatives.

Based on the plans of DOTr, Tupas said that the projects are scheduled to undergo bidding process in the last quarter of this year. (PNA)
