500 immigration officers at NAIA reshuffled

MANILA — The Bureau of Immigration on Thursday made another reshuffle of its personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In a report by Port Operations Civision chief Marc Red Mariñas to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, the rotation of 500 employees in their terminal assignments is part of the management’s program to deter corruption and improve service to the traveling public.

The affected airport personnel will start reporting to their new terminal assignments effective immediately.

“As a result of this latest rotation, every immigration officer assigned at the NAIA was transferred from his or her presently assigned terminal to any one of the two other terminals at the airport,” Mariñas said in a statement.

“Henceforth, we shall be doing this every three months instead of every six months as previously practiced,” he added.

The BI official also informed Morente that the rotation was implemented barely three months after his office ordered a similar reshuffle of BI officers assigned to conduct immigration formalities for international travelers in NAIA’s arrival and departure areas.

Marinas noted that no one was exempted from the personnel movement in order to prevent fraternization in the workplace which studies have identified as a major source of corruption in government.

“The scheme also aims to raise the employees’ productivity,” he said.

The last rotation of personnel was implemented in December 2017. (PNA)
