5,000 PDLs released to prevent COVID-19 spread in jails

Around 5, 000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been released from April 30 to May 8 as part of the government’s strides in preventing the spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in jails.

According to Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, 4,863 PDLs have been released through bail after Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta ordered the hearing of small cases through video conference.

Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez added that more PDLs will be released in the next few weeks. – PTV News
