Over 50T ‘Yolanda’-affected families get aid

ILOILO CITY– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as of September has already disbursed PHP5,000 in assistance to each of 54, 651 families who survived super typhoon “Yolanda” in Western Visayas.

Rosario Sanagustin, DSWD-Western Visayas head for protection and social services, said Thursday afternoon, the recipients were among the 75,072 families qualified to receive assistance taken from the Presidential Assistance Fund (PAF).

The disbursement has reached PHP273.2 million.

A total of 19,589 of the recipient families were from Aklan; 16,191 from Iloilo; 15, 610 from Capiz; and 3,261 from Antique. They received their assistance through a cash card issued by the Land Bank of Philippines.

Sanagustin said the remaining 20, 421 beneficiary families had yet to receive their assistance, which would be given to them through a direct cash payout that is currently being processed.

She said the 54, 651 families have yet to avail of any previous government aid, especially the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA).

They also did not receive any grant from the DSWD Core Shelter Project, National Housing Authority (NHA) Permanent Shelter project, and other housing/shelter projects from other government agencies.

The financial aid was part of the commitment of President Rodrigo Duterte during the third year commemoration of “Yolanda” in Tacloban City in November last year, following the appeal of some 200,000 survivors who had yet to receive the ESA. (PNA)
