Fifty-five barangays were placed under localized lockdown in Pasay City following a spike in COVID-19 cases currently totaling 7,073 cases with 435 that are active.
Pasay City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) admitted the unusual increase in cases and suspects a possible variant circulating in the area.
“Hindi po normal kasi na nagkakahawahan lahat ng pamilya base po sa experience namin… Ang bilis po ng transmission sa mga bahay-bahay so isa po ‘yan sa nga tinitignan namin (It is not normal that all families get infected, based on our experience… The transmission among households is very fast so this is one of the things we are looking into),” Mico Llorca of Pasay CESU disclosed.
Around 64 percent of positive cases in Pasay are household or family members. In Barangay 183, 25 of the reported cases are composed almost of families. Pasay health authorities are now seeking the assistance of the Department of Health (DOH) for the possible conduct of genomic sequencing.
“Hindi po natin nakikita ‘yung (We are not seeing the) link… But of course we are still trying to investigate… Kailangan din natin na kumuha ng mga samples dito po sa area (We need to collect samples in these areas),” DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire responded.
Police personnel and the command center of the city are making rounds in barangays to issue reminders regarding health protocol compliance.
Authorized persons outside of residence (APOR) or those required to report to work and buy essential goods are still allowed to go out.
