57-k sacks of imported refined sugar found in QC warehouse

A warehouse inspection conducted by authorities in Quezon City earlier this week found 57,000 sacks of imported refined sugar from Thailand with an estimated value of P285 million.

Each sack found at the sugar warehouse of La Perla Sugar Export Corporation contained 50 kilos and was estimated to be worth P5,000, according to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

The inspection was conducted by agents from the BOC-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, the Enforcement and Security Service-Quick Response Team of the Manila International Container Port, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The personnel with a Letter of Authority issued by Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz also conducted a routinary inventory and inspection of incoming goods, as well as validation of clearances from the Sugar Regulatory Administration covering the goods.

District Collector Romeo Allan Rosales said they will remain vigilant in monitoring the processing and release of sugar imports in the country. –ag
