CEBU CITY — Six drug suspects were killed when the Police Regional Office 7 (Central Visayas) conducted a simultaneous “One Time, Big Time” operation in the entire province of Cebu early Wednesday.

PRO-7 Director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas said three were gunned down in Talisay City, two in Mandaue City, and one in Carmen, Cebu.

Sinas said the six drug personalities were neutralized after they allegedly fired at authorities while resisting arrest.

The fatalities in Talisay City were identified as Rodel Econas of Barangay Lagtang, Zebar Canciancio of Barangay Lawaan II, and Rene Fernandez of Barangay Tanke, who were all declared dead on arrival at the city’s District Hospital.

In Mandaue City, Karl Niño Macachor was killed in Barangay Tabok, while Ranchie Castañeda of Barangay Guizo was shot after allegedly firing at one of the arresting officers. Macachor and Castañeda were both subjects of an arrest warrant.

As of this writing, PRO-7 has yet to receive further details of the anti-drug operation conducted in Carmen, Cebu.

The simultaneous operations also led to the arrest of several drug personalities from the different parts of the province, Sinas said.

In Cebu City, the son of former Consolacion, Cebu Mayor Avelino Gungob was among those arrested in an early morning drug raid in Barangay Guadalupe.

Junie Gungob, an incumbent councilor of Barangay Casili in Consolacion, was caught sniffing methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” together with four other suspects in the house of a certain Clint Fernandez, the subject of the raid.

Gungob and his companions are now detained at the Guadalupe Police station pending the filing of charges against them. (Luel Galarpe/PNA)
