66% of Filipinos satisfied with gov’t response vs Maute group

MANILA — Majority of Filipinos were satisfied with the government’s response to suppress the Maute terror group, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.

The survey showed 66 percent of Filipinos were satisfied, 18 percent unsatisfied and 16 percent undecided on the matter.

This translates to a net satisfaction rating of 48 percent, slightly down from June’s net satisfaction rating of 50 percent.

The government got a “very good” net satisfaction rating in Metro Manila and Mindanao at 54 percent, “good” 49 percent in Visayas and “good” 42 percent in Balanced Luzon.

Urban areas were also more satisfied with the government’s response, compared to rural areas at 51 percent and 44 percent, respectively.

The survey was conducted from September 23-27, 2017 using face-to-face interviews of 1,500 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide, 600 in Balance Luzon and 300 each in Metro Manila, the Visayas and Mindanao with sampling error margins of ±3% for national percentages, ±4% for Balance Luzon, and ±6% each for Metro Manila, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Fighting in Marawi City started last May 23 when government forces tried to arrest Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and his cohorts.

Last Oct. 23, President Rodrigo Duterte declared the city liberated from the terrorists after Hapilon and Omar Maute Maute group co-founder Omar Maute were killed in one of the last encounters of the five-month military operations. (PNA)
