68 DQ cases filed vs. poll aspirants: Comelec

MANILA — A total of 68 petitions for disqualification of candidates in the national and local positions have been filed at the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) main office in Manila.

Based on the records of the Comelec – Clerk of the Commission, the petitions were filed on Monday, including the one against Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III by lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, alleging that he is ineligible to run under the two-consecutive-term limit rule.

Other prominent names include Liberal Party senatorial bet Mar Roxas, who filed a petition to declare Lemecio Jesus Roxas a nuisance candidate.

Disqualification cases were also filed against Senator Loren Legarda, who is running as representative of the lone district of Antique, by former Antique governor Exequiel Javier, and Robin Rubinor for the cancellation of his certificate of candidacy for not being a resident of Antique.

In the local positions, two disqualification cases were filed by Edgar Gica and Norma Pilapil Pozon against gubernatorial aspirant and currently Cebu 3rd District Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Former Manila City vice mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domogoso filed a disqualification case against fellow mayoral aspirant Onofre Estrada Abad.

Re-electionist Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro also filed disqualification cases against Marjoy Villoso and Lorderito Nebres.

Meanwhile, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan filed separate petitions against Rufino Bayon-on, Maximo Tonelino, Edgardo Sevilla, Ronnie Malunes, and Emil Trinidad, who are all running for the mayoralty post.
