7 fisherfolks missing after boat collision in Palawan

Seven fisherfolks were reported missing after their boat collided with a cargo vessel on Saturday, May 28, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Sunday, May 29.

PCG Spokesperson CG Armando Balilo said about 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, a Filipino fishing vessel collided with MV Happy Hiro in the vicinity waters off Maracanao Island in Agutaya, Palawan.

Balilo said a rescue team was sent to validate and conduct search operations.

“MRRV 4406 Coast Guard Station Cuyo and Sub Station Agutay in Iloilo conducting search and rescue operations,” he added.

PCG District Palawan said out of the 21 crew on board, 13 were rescued by Fishing Boat BAL 5.

“The 13 crew were transferred to MV Happy Hiro which was then en route to Lipata in Culasi, Antique to transport the rescued fishermen,” Balilo said. – ag
